The American Conservatives is pleased to announce that the Republican health bill passed the Senate and is headed to the House of Representatives.
The bill would dramatically reduce federal funding for the ACA, including funding for Medicaid, the program that provides health care to low-income people and people with disabilities.
It would also repeal key elements of the ACA and roll back essential health benefits like maternity care, mental health care, prescription drug coverage, and emergency room access.
The Republican bill would repeal the ACA’s Medicaid expansion, which would have helped millions of Americans with lower-than-expected incomes and incomes below 138% of the federal poverty line (FPL) afford their health care.
The GOP bill would eliminate funding for maternity care services for women, including prenatal care and long-term care, and reduce funding for mental health services.
It also eliminates the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which covers over a million children under age 26 who are enrolled in the federal Children’s health insurance program.
The legislation would end Medicaid expansion for people with incomes below 133% of FPL and would allow states to opt out of the program.
And it would repeal key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, including the individual mandate and the mandate to purchase insurance or pay a fine.
Republicans have also promised to repeal the “Obamacare” taxes, which currently impose a tax on high-income Americans and businesses.
The House bill would also dramatically increase the federal debt limit, which the GOP wants to use to raise revenue to fund the government.
And the bill would end the mandate that Americans purchase health insurance or face a penalty, which requires most Americans to purchase health coverage.
Republicans will also repeal the Affordable Housing Assistance Program (HOPE), which provides assistance to low and moderate income Americans who have lost their homes due to foreclosure.
The American people expect that the American people will be able to afford the healthcare reforms, and they’re going to get the reforms that they need, not the changes that they wanted.
The Senate will also pass the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which repeals key ACA regulations and also ends funding for Obamacare.
The AHCA would provide tax credits for families with incomes up to 400% of poverty to purchase private health insurance.
And this is really a win for Americans who work, who have kids, and for middle-class families.
We are very proud to have Sen. Mike Lee and our allies in the House on board to get this done, and we’re hopeful that the House will pass this bill.
