India’s biggest online travel agent has warned its customers that it has detected and halted a massive online fraud ring, and is now working to identify the culprits behind it.
Key points:The scamster used a scam website called www.scam.com to attract visitors to an online reservation marketplace that allowed them to book hotels, cars, and airfare in India, in order to make money from themThe fraudster’s website contained a link to the website of the travel agency called www, and the scammer’s email address was used to post fraudulent messages and make fraudulent offers of travel for sale, said an official statement by the travel company.
The scammer created fake accounts for himself and used the fake accounts to make payments, said the statement, adding that the fraudsters website had been suspended and their emails have been blocked.
The company has also stopped its operations in the country, said Amit Shah, vice-president of the Travel Agents Association of India.
In a separate statement, the company said it has started to investigate and identify the fraudster.
